We are the fastest growing flight simulation community

Downwind is a multiplayer server on Flight Simulator X Steam Edition. We are a flying community focusing on flight simulation, primarily on real-world ATC operations. Launched in 2020, the community has grown to a user-base of more than 1000 members, and as FSX multiplayer pilots may have noticed, is one of the more populated servers on Steam Edition.

We are a friendly community and we welcome all members above the age of 13 (due to Discords TOS), so its not just about kids or just about adults. We help each other out where needed and make sure it is a safe and fun environment for everyone to fly in. So you can rest assured that you are in safe hands when you join our discord. Our staff team consists of real world computer scientists, emergency services, real world pilots or just school kids. Everyone is welcome.

Earth ATC Services is when one person controls it all.
The fun part is:
You choose the airplane
You choose the airport
You choose what to do

Frequently Asked Questions

Bellow are some questions we get asked frequently.

  • Can I control as ATC without the Experienced ATC role?

Yes you can. Everyone is allowed to do ATC, the Experienced ATC role gets handed out to people who control often and know what they're doing.

  • The Experienced ATC role gets handed out to people who control often and know what they're doing. If you ask or beg for the role you will most likely not get it :)

  • Yes. We even encourage you to do so, because you learn best by doing :). Also we recommend you try listening to other people doing tower first to get a sense of how things work.

  • If there is ATC for an airport, he will be in one of the frequencies and the ICAO code of the airport is in his nickname.

  • Connect to the Downwind FSX server. Spawn in at the airport of your choice and open your preferred radar client (Littlenavmaps/VRC/EuroScope/etc.). Put "(ICAO_TWR)" in front of your nickname and replace "ICAO" with the ICAO code of the airport you're controlling. Join one of the tower voice channels (of course a free one where there isn't already tower).

  • First you need to come up with an idea. After you have an idea for what type of event, what airports, what time, etc... put in a suggestion using the ;suggest command. A staff member will reach out to you and say yay or nay. If its accepted, a channel will be created for you to plan this event and make a banner for it.
